You do need solidOct 11 2007Other
You do need solid grades and test scores to get in, but you don't need to be a genius. Also keep in mind that GW has been making it harder and harder over the years to use AP credits (or transfer credits, if you are a transfer student or took college classes while in high school) to count for courses. You CANNOT in any way, shape, or form opt out of the freshman English class, for example, and for most other AP tests you need at least a 4 (even physics, and we all know how impossible that test was). You don't need to stand out or be extra involved, although a personal essay on something you did related to politics/environment/community service/human rights/etc does help. Also, if you're a good athlete chances are you will get a scholarship.

I was your general all-around student, with decentOct 05 2007Political Science
I was your general all-around student, with decent grades, good SAT scores, and lots of extracurriculars. I was also already deeply interested in my major and expressed that in my personal statement - I'm sure it's not necessary, but it may have helped.
SAT: 1410 Female
Have decent extracurriculars and do wellMay 18 2007Computer Science
Have decent extracurriculars and do well academically. It's getting more and more competitive, now with a 26% acceptance rate and falling. Good luck!
SAT: 1350 Male
The most important thing is to be genuineJan 06 2007Political Science
The most important thing is to be genuine. GW isn't looking for a kiss-up; they're looking for interesting students who will bring as much to GW as GW will bring to them. Concentrate on the essays and even though it isn't required, do an interview. My boyfriend, who was wait-listed, due to his high school GPA of 3.00 (despite a 1590 on the old SAT), did an interview and was later admitted.
SAT: 1320 Female
Apply early decision I or II and your basically inMay 04 2006Business - Management and Administration
Apply early decision I or II and your basically in... i had a 3.8 gpa i was 92/267 on my sats- math: 620 critical reading: 620 and writing: 660 i played no sports and was in 3 clubs for 3 years, i didnt volunteer anywhere, and didnt really do anything so it just shows it doesnt really take much. People that applied regular out of my class didnt get in though who were the perfect well rounded student..so apply early even though its binding another classmate of mine applied early got accepted but got into another school she wanted to go to then told gw she couldnt afford it and when there..so its basically a win win situation
